the rave department at mapbox provides a globally validated, up-to-date mapbox streets basemap data, including proprietary 3d data; an engaging feedback experience for hundreds of thousands users and drivers; generates high quality corrections at scale to strengthen our customerchr(39)s confidence in mapboxchr(39)s commitment to offering the best-in-class map data to power navigation for people, packages, and vehicles globally. 3d mapping is a brand-new division within the rave department in minsk, which closely collaborates w/ international teams in finland and the us. we are responsible for creation and delivery of 3d features to mapbox maps, obsessed with finding systematic solutions to hard problems, and, in the process, inventing the future of how people interact with location. we collaborate closely with engineering and design, and use our skills, creativity and curiosity to push the boundaries of what’s possible with interactive maps and how people use location technologies in their daily lives. we work on state-of-the-art platforms, largely open-source, for map interaction and visualization used by millions of people around the globe. what youchr(39)ll do we’re looking for a lead 3d artist to join our team and help create the vision and direction for building the most engaging 3d maps experience. you will be responsible to set a delivery vision and provide technical expertise through direct team guidance; hire, develop and coach specialists, talents and leaders in your team; build a basis for scaling operations up to thousands of deliveries per month through coaching the team and building automations; continually improve and expand the operational footprint of your area as complexity/scope increases. in this role, you will: working closely with design and engineering teams to define the roadmap and develop a longer-term delivery strategy for building proprietary 3d maps; solve technical and architectural challenges; scale and improve delivery operations through simplifying technical pipeline and experimenting with new techniques; drive project objectives, carrying the team along in the decision-making in style/technical directions; deliver complex, high-impact projects while providing your team with technical expertise, mentorship, and artistic direction. improve the technical complexity of the team through target coaching. what we believe are important traits for this role 5+ years experience working as a lead/senior 3d artist; solid experience with blender; strong experience in 3d modeling techniques and ability to apply them to a wider range of platforms if necessary (working with the stylization of architecture is preferred; deep experience in optimized procedural modeling techniques; ability to collaborate with a wide range of design and engineering teams; experience working with long-term and midterm deliveries, or building operations for large volumes of 3d models (e.g. in gamedev); able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced company, with the ability to prioritize and adapt to change; empathy and kindness, willingness to learn from different perspectives, and patience to help others grow; clear and persuasive communication of information in english to a broad audience, and a commitment to fostering and growing cross-team relationships; passion for the operational excellence of your systems including aspects of monitoring and metrics, triaging regressions, and improving a product or operations continually over time; ability to take on an ownership role, be able to ramp up quickly, and operate independently; experience working with long-term and midterm deliveries.what we value in addition to our core values, which are not unique to this position and are necessary for mapbox leaders: we value high-performing creative individuals who dig into problems and opportunities. we believe in individuals being their whole selves at work. we commit to this through supportive health care, parental leave, flexibility for the things that come up in life, and innovating on how we think about supporting our people. we emphasize an environment of teaching and learning to equip employees with the tools needed to be successful in their function and the company. we strongly believe in the value of growing a diverse team and encourage people of all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, abilities, and sexual orientations to apply.
